The updated list of Australian coronavirus restrictions

So a lot of people are wondering… what are the coronavirus restrictions…

  • Australians will no longer be able to gather in groups of more than two and people aged over 70 should self-isolate in their homes as part of new social distancing restrictions announced by Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
  • Playgrounds, skate parks and outside gyms in public places have been added to a list of venue closures first announced by Mr Morrison last week in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus.
  • Public gatherings limited to two people; all people aged over 70 should stay at home; renters will be offered a moratorium on evictions – find out more about what that all means here.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has struck a deal with the states to impose a moratorium on the eviction of struggling residential renters.

But Mr Morrison underlined the need for landlords to work with their tenants and banks on solutions, which should start immediately.

“We need you to sit down, talk to each other and work this out,” he said.

“These are now radical restrictions on Australians, don’t gather in groups of more than two outside unless with your household. So you can go out with family,” said Uhlmann.

“When you go out shopping, do not linger in the shops, come home when you can. If you are over 70, you should self-isolate at home and only go out when absolutely necessary.

“If you  have a chronic disease, that is 60, if you are an indigenous Australian, that is 50 years of age where you should restrict yourself.

“Another big point tonight was also on people renting. I have had lots of questions about this. The states and territories are going to have a moratorium on foreclosing or basically evicting people who are renters.

“So a lot to digest there. Our lives change by the minute and by the hour and as the Prime Minister said, 2020 is going to be one of the toughest years any of us have ever had to live.”
