How to boost your home’s Wi-Fi to cover the extra demand
With many Australians working and entertaining their children at home because of COVID-19, your Wi-Fi network might not be operating optimally.
Thankfully, there’s a few things you can do to help improve the quality and speed of your connection.

Nine.com.au has compiled the following tips to help you get the most of your Wi-Fi network.

Purchase a mesh Wi-Fi system

The so-called mesh Wi-Fi systems have been created as a solution to traditional single routers, which deliver relatively limited coverage when faced with the challenges presented by the complicated layouts of modern homes – walls, furniture, and appliances can all affect your internet coverage and speed.
While Wi-Fi extenders make it possible for more range, speeds will be significantly less than what is offered by the actual router because it must split bandwidth.
A mesh Wi-Fi system will offer both whole-home coverage and a consistently strong signal by using a main wireless router and additional satellite points.
D-Link COVR-2202
The D-Link COVR-2202 Tri-band mesh Wi-Fi system will not only improve your coverage and speeds, but it includes McAfee internet security to protect all of your connected products.
The mesh Wi-Fi system’s base station connects to your modem and includes a satellite that provides high-speed wireless coverage up to 560 square metres.
It has six antennas along with MU-MIMO technology which means even coverage across your home for fast and consistent streaming – although the sleek design will mean neither of the devices will look out-of-place in your home.
The basic kit comes with two access points, although the product can be daisy-chained with additional access devices.
The COVR-2202 is compatible with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, while  the easy-to-use iOS or Android D-Link Wi-Fi app allows you to control, restrict or configure network access. There are also advanced parental control features to offer customisable, profile-based controls for kids’ online activities.
In testing, I have lost no speed when walking around my house with my laptop as the Wi-Fi access just switches to the nearest COVR access point.
The platform also uses McAfee’s Global Threat Intelligence database which includes real-time, adaptable machine learning which can detect and prevent malicious connections and attacks.
McAfee LiveSafe, which allows customers to install McAfee anti-virus software on mobile devices, is also included.
The D-Link COVR-2202 Tri-band mesh Wi-Fi system with McAfee security onboard is available now and is priced at $499.95.
