India headed towards Boxing Day Test victory after superb second innings bowling display

Australia may currently hold the lead in this Test, but make no mistake about it, it is India’s to lose from hereon in.

Indian captain Ajinkya Rahane would have been disappointed to see his side lose their last five wickets for 32 runs to start the day, but the response from the bowlers was superb.

Australia have been put under immense pressure from ball one by the tourists, stumbling to 6-133 off 66 overs so far in their second innings, a run rate of just over two an over.

India has shown throughout this tour that they are not afraid to tackle adversity head on, and they did so again after losing opening bowler Umesh Yadav to a calf injury.

Yadav’s injury came after he perhaps ended Joe Burns’ Test career, but after he limped off, the rest of the attack followed suit.

No bowler went for over 2.50 runs per over, and that bowler, Ravindra Jadeja, picked up two crucial wickets.

Australia lost 3-1 at one stage in the final session and looked headed for a potential innings defeat, but a handy partnership between Cam Green (17 not out) and Pat Cummins (15 not out) has given them a little bit of hope.

Justin Langer will hope that the pair can continue to extend the lead tomorrow morning so that Australia’s attack can put the Indians under pressure in the fourth innings.
