YouTube down: World’s most popular video streaming service faces downtime

YouTube users around the world have been unable to play videos after a major outage from the popular streaming service.

Monitoring website DownDetector first reported that users had logged problems streaming videos in northeast America, Western Europe, Mexico, Australia and South America.

Users have been reporting videos failing to load or failing to play entirely across both desktop and mobile apps.

YouTube boasts more than two billion monthly logged-in users and has previously claimed that more than 1 billion hours of video are streamed each day.

Ads played on YouTube videos have also been flagged as not loading during the technical outage.

YouTube has since uploaded a short statement to Twitter to let users know that a fix is on the way.

“If you’re having trouble watching videos on YouTube right now, you’re not alone – our team is aware of the issue and working on a fix.”

“Imagine if google went down, like just unresponsive…..hard to believe right? @TeamYouTube you should hold yourself to that same bar,” said another.
