Toyota has issued a major recall for more than 72,000 vehicles over fears a faulty fuel pump may increase the risk of an accident.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission extended the recall that was originally issued in April over the fault that could “increase the risk of an accident and injury or death of the vehicle occupants and other road users.”
The affected vehicles were sold across the country between October 2013 and October 2020 and include popular models such as Camry, Corolla, Prado and Hilux.
“The fuel pump on affected vehicles may stop operating,” Product Safety Australia said in a statement.
“If the fuel pump stops working, warning lights and messages may display on the instrument panel, and the engine may not run smoothly.
“This can result in the vehicle stalling and the vehicle may not be able to be restarted.”
The affected vehicle are:
- Toyota FJ Cruiser (GSJ15): Model Years 2013-2015, 2948 affected vehicles
- Toyota Prado (GRJ150): Model Years 2013-2015, 483 affected vehicles
- Toyota Land Cruiser (URJ202): Model Years 2013-2019, 153 affected vehicles
- Toyota Corolla (ZRE172): Model Years 2017-2019, 8691 affected vehicles
- Toyota Camry and Camry HV (GSV70 and AXVH71): Model Years 2017-2019, 6038 affected vehicles
- Toyota Kluger (GSU50 and GSU55): Model Years 2017-2019, 37546 affected vehicles
- Toyota HiLux (TGN121): Model Years 2017-2019, 13661 affected vehicles
- Toyota HiAce (GRH300, GRH320, TRH201, TRH221, TRH223 and GM8CP): Model Years 2018-2019, 2529 affected vehicles
Toyota will contact the affected owners in writing with an interim notification advising of this safety recall.
The impacted vehicles will be repaired, free-of-charge, with parts expected to become available progressively from April 2021.
