10 dead in deadly Lunar New Year shooting in California

A shooting at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park, California left 10 people dead and 10 more injured, amid Lunar New Year celebrations.

Five ladies and five men were killed, along with ten other persons, in the shooting at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park, according to LA County Sheriff Robert Luna. The Lai Lai Ballroom in adjacent Alhambra was then invaded by a guy carrying a pistol 20 to 30 minutes later.

It’s yet unclear, according to Luna, whether the incidents are related.

According to Luna, the event in Alhambra “may be linked.” “It’s obviously on our radar, but we’re not quite there yet.”

A male Asian suspect was identified in both incidents. He brought a pistol inside the Alhambra club, but someone wrestled it from him before he left, according to Luna.

The suspected shooter, described as an Asian male, may have attempted to target a second dance hall, the Lai Lai Ballroom in nearby Alhambra, but was unsuccessful.

The suspect allegedly fled the scene after the shooting spree and a search is currently underway across the Los Angeles area. The events may be connected, but authorities are still investigating. The suspect was reported to have fled in a white van, and police had surrounded a white van in a parking lot by midday.
