McCartin in strife over sickening hit with Geelong captain

Paddy McCartin could find himself back on the sidelines after the former No.1 draft pick appeared to strike Geelong’s Aaron Black during a VFL clash on the weekend.

McCartin, who joined the Sydney Swans’ VFL side this year, could receive a lengthy ban after he was involved in a physical confrontation on the field with Black, which left the Geelong captain struggling to stay on his feet after receiving a swipe to the jaw.

Black avoided a concussion but suffered a swollen jaw. The incident is currently being reviewed by the AFL’s match review team, according to a Fox Sports report.

The Cats went on to defeat the Swans 64-60 in their VFL encounter at Tramway Oval.

It’s hoped for McCartin that season 2021 will be his redemption story after the Swans handed him a lifeline to continue his career with their second-tier side this year.

The 25-year-old’s return to football comes after he was delisted by former club St Kilda at the end of the 2019 season.

The former St Kilda forward’s five-year stay at the Saints was riddled with concussions, which saw him feature in just 35 games for the club. He suffered a total of eight concussions during his stint with the Saints.
